Drug clinical trial landscape of chronic myeloid leukemia: achieving the endpoint or continuing the journey?

Rákkutatás · Chronic myeloid leukemia

This review systematically maps the global clinical trial landscape for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), highlighting the predominant use of tyrosine‑kinase inhibitors (TKIs), the persistent challenges of resistance and relapse, and the emerging promise of combination therapies such as Venetoclax with TKIs.

CML patients treated with TKIs now enjoy near‑normal life expectancy, yet 20–30 % still experience suboptimal responses, drug resistance, or disease progression. Understanding the evolving trial landscape is essential to guide future therapeutic strategies, improve patient outcomes, and address unmet needs such as equity across diverse populations and management of early‑phase disease.
