The recognized incidence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in the U.S. continues to rise.
The recognized incidence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) in the United States continues to rise, whereas the incidence of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ECC) remains stable. The incidence of carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) has fallen dramatically during the same period.
Increases in ICC incidence emphasize the need for improved diagnostic differentiation from CUP and may reflect expanding detection or true epidemiologic shifts.
