INITIALL: Risk-based Pediatric Leukemia/Lymphoma Treatment
The standard treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), lymphoblastic lymphoma (LLy, a type of non‑Hodgkin lymphoma), and mixed phenotype acute leukemia/lymphoma (MPAL) is chemotherapy.
The risk-based pediatric leukemia/lymphoma study (INITIALL) aims to classify newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), lymphoblastic lymphoma (LLy), and mixed phenotype acute leukemia/lymphoma (MPAL) into low‑risk, standard‑risk, or high‑risk categories based on cytogenetic, molecular, and clinical features, so that subsequent therapy can be tailored accordingly.
Accurately determining the risk category of pediatric ALL, LLy, or MPAL is essential for optimizing treatment intensity, reducing toxicity, and improving overall survival while sparing children from unnecessary high‑intensity therapy.
