Transparency of clinical trials in pancreatic cancer: An analysis of availability of trial results from the ClinicalTrials.gov database
A total of 856 clinical trials investigating pancreatic cancer were analyzed, revealing that 73.13% had results available, yet only 26.87% disclosed those results on ClinicalTrials.gov.
Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is highly malignant, and as clinical trials increase, transparency of data has become a key concern. Methods: We searched ClinicalTrials.gov up to June 2022 for PC trials and assessed results availability. Results: Of 856 trials, 626 (73.13%) had results, 230 (26.87%) did not disclose any data. Among those with results, 86.10% were published and 39.78% were posted on ClinicalTrials.gov. Conclusions: Although about 90% of PC trials published results, 30% did not report any findings, and reporting on ClinicalTrials.gov was unsatisfactory, indicating room for improvement in PC trial transparency.
Transparent reporting of clinical trial outcomes is critical for clinicians to design effective treatment strategies, for researchers to build on existing evidence, and for patients to be informed about the potential benefits and harms of interventions.
