Vanderbilt researchers identify potential drug combinations to improve breast cancer treatment
Vanderbilt researchers identified anticancer compounds that can enhance CD8+ T‑cell–mediated killing of triple‑negative breast cancer cells, suggesting these drugs may improve immune checkpoint blockade therapies.
In a high‑throughput screen, 448 anticancer compounds were evaluated for their ability to boost CD8+ T‑cell killing of triple‑negative breast cancer cells. The screen identified 22 drugs with activity and four lead compounds (paclitaxel, bleomycin sulfate, ispinesib, etoposide) that enhanced tumor immunogenicity and could synergize with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Enhancing the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors in TNBC could improve patient outcomes and reduce the toxic side effects associated with conventional chemotherapy.
