If It77s a Solid Tumor Target, It May Be a Hematologic Cancer Target: Bridging the Great Divide

Cancer research · Cholangiocarcinoma · BRAF · ALK

Tumor‑agnostic therapeutic approvals for solid cancers can also be effective against hematologic malignancies, suggesting that biomarker‑driven therapies should be applied across both tissue types.

Tumor‑agnostic approvals by the FDA have largely focused on solid tumors, yet identical driver alterations are often found in hematologic malignancies and respond to the same targeted therapies. This commentary reviews the tissue‑agnostic landscape—including approvals for NTRK, RET, BRAF, MSI‑H/TMB, and HER2—, highlights overlapping targets such as BRAF, IDH, ALK, FGFR, NTRK, RET, PD‑L1, and CD70, and discusses opportunities for extending basket trials to include both solid and blood cancers.

Recognizing shared genomic drivers across tissue types expands therapeutic options, accelerates drug access for rare hematologic diseases, and promotes efficient trial designs that reduce the need for large, tissue‑specific studies.
