A novel immunotherapy using engineered invariant natural killer T (CAR‑iNKT) cells targets both CD19 and CD133 markers on high‑risk childhood leukemia cells. In preclinical mouse models, this off‑the‑shelf therapy eradicated leukemia, including in the brain and other challenging sites, and showed no major toxicity, outperforming standard CAR‑T therapy in durability and effectiveness.
The therapy’s off‑the‑shelf nature allows rapid treatment of high‑risk infant and child leukemia where disease can progress quickly, addressing a critical need for timely, effective therapy.
