New Clinical Trial: Hemithoracic Irradiation with Proton Therapy in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (HIT-Meso)

Rákkutatás · Malignant pleural mesothelioma

A new clinical trial has been funded to investigate the use of proton radiotherapy for patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.

A new clinical trial has been funded to investigate the use of proton radiotherapy for patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. Proton therapy is expected to reduce radiation exposure to healthy lung tissue and other organs compared with conventional photon radiotherapy, potentially improving overall survival and quality of life. The trial will recruit 148 patients and randomise them to receive either proton radiotherapy or standard of care (chemotherapy, photon radiotherapy for symptom control, or monitoring).

Mesothelioma is a rare but aggressive cancer with poor survival rates. Proton therapy may provide a more targeted treatment, reducing damage to healthy tissues and improving outcomes.
