BONES Study: Evaluation and Staging

Rákkutatás · Osteosarcoma

The 5‑year survival and event‑free survival rates for the 209 assessable patients were 50.1 % and 39 % respectively.

A total of 225 osteosarcoma (OS) patients with metastatic and non‑metastatic disease of the extremities were enrolled in two consecutive Brazilian studies. The multivariate analysis identified metastases at diagnosis (P < .001), necrosis grades 1 and 2 (P = .046), and tumor size (P = .0071) as factors associated with shorter survival. The 5‑year overall survival rate for all assessable patients was 50.1 % in this cohort, lower than reported in North American and European trials. The study highlights the need for improved treatment strategies in Brazilian patients with OS.

Demonstrates the survival outcomes of Brazilian osteosarcoma patients and identifies key prognostic factors that could guide future therapeutic strategies.
