Treatment of metastatic uveal melanoma with adoptive transfer of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes: a single‑center phase 2 study
Adoptive transfer of autologous tumor‑infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) mediates objective tumor regression in patients with metastatic uveal melanoma.
Background: Metastatic uveal melanoma has historically been resistant to systemic therapy. Adoptive T‑cell therapy has shown promise in other solid tumours. Methods: Twenty‑one patients with metastatic ocular melanoma received lymphodepleting chemotherapy followed by autologous TIL infusion and high‑dose interleukin‑2. Results: Of 20 evaluable patients, 7 (35%) achieved objective response (6 partial, 1 complete). Conclusions: TIL therapy can induce durable responses in metastatic uveal melanoma, challenging its perceived immunotherapy resistance.
This study demonstrates that adoptive TIL therapy can elicit objective tumour regression in metastatic uveal melanoma, a disease with no standard effective treatments, thereby supporting further exploration of immune‑based strategies.
