Non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is driven by fusion of the EML4 gene with the ALK gene, creating the EML4‑ALK oncogenic transcript.
EML4 is a human gene encoding a WD‑repeat microtubule‑associated protein that may participate in microtubule formation. Fusion of parts of EML4 with the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene generates the EML4‑ALK transcript, a major driver of non‑small cell lung cancer.
The EML4‑ALK fusion represents one of the most common oncogenic drivers in NSCLC, informing diagnostic strategies and targeted therapies such as ALK inhibitors.
