Cancer vaccine shows promise for patients with stage III and IV kidney cancer

Rákkutatás · Renal cell carcinoma

A personalized neoantigen cancer vaccine led to durable disease‑free survival in all nine patients with stage III/IV clear cell renal cell carcinoma in a phase‑1 trial.

In a phase‑1 study, a personalized neoantigen vaccine was administered to nine patients with stage III/IV clear cell renal cell carcinoma after surgery. The vaccine induced a robust immune response and all patients remained disease‑free at a median follow‑up of 34.7 months, supporting further investigation of neoantigen immunotherapy in kidney cancer.

The findings suggest that a neoantigen‑based vaccine can achieve complete disease control in high‑risk kidney cancer patients, offering an alternative to current immunotherapies that only reduce recurrence risk and fail in many cases. This approach may fill a critical unmet need for durable, targeted treatment options.
