Definitive diagnosis relies on histopathological examination supported by immunohistochemistry, with cytogenetic and molecular analyses such as detection of EWSR1 gene rearrangement playing a critical role in confirming the diagnosis.
Ewing sarcoma is a highly aggressive small‑round cell tumour. When it occurs in the lung, it is extremely uncommon and often mistaken for more frequent lung malignancies. Recognising its distinctive histologic, immunophenotypic and cytogenetic signature is essential for accurate diagnosis and for guiding multimodal therapy, as the prognosis and treatment strategy differ markedly from those of common lung cancers.
