Real-World Epidemiology, Treatment Patterns, and Outcomes of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Brazil: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

Rákkutatás · Hepatocellular carcinoma

Among patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma in Brazil, systemic therapy was associated with a median overall survival of 8 months compared with 3 months for untreated patients.

This study describes the epidemiology, treatment patterns, and outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma patients in Brazil between 2017 and 2022. In a national, multicenter, retrospective observational cohort of 303 patients, early-stage cases were treated mainly with local therapy and exhibited a median overall survival of 19.6 months, whereas advanced-stage patients had a median overall survival of 8 months with systemic therapy versus 3 months without. Hepatitis C and alcohol remain the predominant etiologies, but access to modern systemic treatments was limited.

These findings highlight gaps in access to systemic therapies for advanced HCC in Brazil, informing policy and resource allocation.
