New pathway for potential glioblastoma treatment

The study demonstrates that activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) suppresses glioblastoma cell invasion, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target.

A team from Texas A&M University discovered that the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) functions as a tumor suppressor-like gene in glioblastoma. Activation of AHR by ligands, including Kynurenine, potently inhibited invasion of glioblastoma cells in vitro, suggesting a new therapeutic target.

Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor in adults, with median survival of only 11‑15 months. Identifying a suppressor pathway could lead to novel drugs that reduce invasion and improve patient outcomes.
