Nasopharyngeal carcinoma
In patients with stage III–IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma, induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiation improves overall survival compared with concurrent chemoradiation alone.
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a radio‑ and chemotherapy‑sensitive malignancy with a high incidence in South China, Southeast Asia and North Africa. Optimal strategies for stage II disease, non‑EBV‑associated NPC and the role of immunotherapy are still unclear. This article reviews guideline recommendations and recent clinical trials, highlighting that induction chemotherapy followed by chemoradiation is the standard of care for stage III–IV disease and that systemic combinations such as gemcitabine‑cisplatin plus immune‐checkpoint inhibitors are emerging first‑line options in the metastatic setting.
