Merkel Cell Carcinoma Clinical Trials & Research | Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
JAVELIN Merkel 200 is the largest trial of immunotherapy in metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) with the longest patient follow-up to date.
The JAVELIN Merkel 200 study is a phase 2, open‑label, single‑arm, multicenter trial that evaluated avelumab (BAVENCIO®) in patients with metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma regardless of PD‑L1 expression or Merkel cell polyomavirus status. Treatment was administered at 10 mg/kg every two weeks until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Tumor responses were assessed every six weeks by blinded independent central review using RECIST v1.1. The study reports clinical activity and a comprehensive safety profile, including immune‑mediated adverse events such as pneumonitis, colitis, hepatitis, endocrine disorders, and skin reactions.
This evidence informs oncologists and healthcare professionals about the efficacy, safety, and dosing schedule of avelumab in metastatic MCC, enabling informed treatment decisions and patient monitoring.
