CAIX and CD70 Theranostics in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma: Navigating the Promise and Perils
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) accounts for approximately 75% of all renal malignancies.
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a highly heterogenous and challenging malignancy that requires novel, non‑invasive diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) and CD70 are transmembrane proteins that are massively over‑expressed in ccRCC and represent promising targets for PET imaging and theranostics. This article reviews the biology of these biomarkers, summarizes the emerging clinical evidence for CAIX‑ and CD70‑targeted PET tracers, discusses the current therapeutic pipeline, and highlights the complementary roles of these modalities in diagnosis, staging, restaging, and therapy monitoring.
The high prevalence and therapeutic resistance of ccRCC underline the need for specific, molecular‑level imaging and targeted treatment to improve patient outcomes.
