Characterization and functional analysis of miRNAs in Salvia miltiorrhiza-isolated exosome-like nanoparticles for gastric cancer treatment

Cancer research · Gastric cancer

Exosome‑like nanoparticles (ELNs) were successfully purified from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen) utilizing ultracentrifugation.

Exosome-like nanoparticles (ELNs) isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen) exert anti‑tumor effects on human gastric cancer (GC) cells (HGC‑27) by inhibiting proliferation, migration, and colony formation while promoting apoptosis. MiRNA sequencing identified abundant miRNAs within these ELNs that may serve as therapeutic targets for GC.

Demonstrating that plant‑derived ELNs contain functional miRNAs capable of suppressing gastric cancer cell growth and invasiveness provides a novel, biocompatible platform for developing anti‑cancer therapeutics.
