Treatment of ovarian cancer consists of surgery and chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel) as first‑line therapy, with targeted agents such as bevacizumab and PARP inhibitors used as maintenance, and checkpoint‑inhibitor immunotherapy approved only for tumors with MSI‑H or dMMR characteristics.
Ovarian cancer treatment follows a multimodal approach: cytoreductive surgery followed by adjuvant platinum‑taxane chemotherapy is the standard first‑line regimen. Targeted therapies such as bevacizumab (anti‑VEGF) and PARP inhibitors (for BRCA1/2‑mutated disease) are used as maintenance after chemotherapy. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (pembrolizumab or dostarlimab) are approved for MSI‑H or mismatch‑repair‑deficient tumors, while hormonal and radiation therapies remain limited roles. Current research focuses on novel combinations and vaccine or CAR‑T approaches.
Effective management of ovarian cancer can extend survival and improve quality of life, yet resistance to standard platinum‑taxane therapy and limited treatment options for refractory disease highlight the need for new targeted and immunotherapeutic strategies.
