Researchers using a new Sleeping‑Beauty model have identified several genes that drive osteosarcoma, including SEMA4D and SEMA6D, which are highly expressed in many tumors. Inhibiting SEMA4D may suppress tumor growth, and monoclonal‑antibody therapies against SEMA4D are already in trials for other solid tumors.
Identifying driver genes opens the possibility of new targeted treatments for osteosarcoma, a cancer with poor prognosis and limited options.
