Prediction of treatment outcome in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients
The OS model achieved good performance in both the training set (C-index = 0.73, 95% CI [0.68–0.77]), internal test set (0.71 [0.64–0.77]) and the external test set (0.67 [0.61–0.72]).
This study developed prediction models for overall survival, progression‑free survival, locoregional control, and distant control in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated with intensity‑modulated radiotherapy, using routinely collected clinical parameters. The models outperformed the AJCC staging system and effectively stratified patients into low‑ and high‑risk groups.
Having accurate, data‑driven prognostic models allows clinicians to tailor treatment intensity to individual risk, potentially improving survival outcomes and reducing unnecessary toxicity in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.
