Trial Results Show Majority of Patients With CLL Achieve uMRD With VenO
Fixed‑duration venetoclax plus obinutuzumab (VenO) achieved high rates of undetectable minimal residual disease (uMRD) at 15 months compared with standard chemoimmunotherapy (FCR or BR) in newly diagnosed chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
The phase‑3 CRISTALLO trial evaluated fixed‑duration venetoclax plus obinutuzumab (VenO) versus FCR or BR in 166 previously untreated CLL patients. At 15 months, 81.3% of VenO-treated patients achieved uMRD <10^-4 in peripheral blood versus 54.7% with FCR/BR. Similar superior bone marrow responses and improved overall response rates were observed. The study confirms the depth of response with VenO and supports its use as a frontline therapy in CLL.
Achieving uMRD is associated with longer progression‑free survival and potentially durable remissions. Demonstrating superior uMRD rates with a fixed‑duration, targeted‑therapy regimen offers a less toxic, more convenient alternative to lifelong chemoimmunotherapy for newly diagnosed CLL patients.
