Ultra-Processed Foods Linked to 30% Higher Prostate Cancer Risk
Ultra‑processed foods (UPFs) are linked to a higher risk of prostate cancer.
In a nationally representative cohort of 17,024 U.S. men aged 18 and older, a higher proportion of daily calories derived from ultra‑processed foods (UPFs) was associated with a 29–30 % increased risk of prostate cancer. The association remained statistically significant after adjustment for age, race/ethnicity, smoking status and poverty status, with relative risks ranging from 24 % to 31 %.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in U.S. men and the second leading cause of male cancer death. Identifying modifiable dietary risk factors—such as a high intake of UPFs—offers a potential avenue for prevention and public‑health interventions.
