Pelvic MRI in Endometrial Cancer Staging: A Retrospective Evaluation of the Impact of FIGO 2023
The 2023 FIGO update reduced substage concordance between preoperative pelvic MRI and final pathology, primarily due to the missed detection of minimal myometrial invasion and micrometastatic lymph node involvement.
The 2023 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system for endometrial cancer (EC) integrates histopathologic and molecular variables that may be inapparent at imaging. This dual‑center retrospective study evaluated the impact of the updated FIGO 2023 staging system on preoperative MRI assessment in women with biopsy‑proven EC and assessed its influence on patient outcomes.
Improved accuracy of preoperative staging can guide treatment decisions and potentially improve survival outcomes for endometrial cancer patients.
