Many Patients with Metastatic NSCLC Remain Untreated Despite Therapeutic Advances
A blood‑based test measuring tumor mutational burden can identify which NSCLC patients are more likely to benefit from atezolizumab immunotherapy.
A blood‑based tumor mutational burden (TMB) assay was shown to accurately predict benefit from the PD‑L1 inhibitor atezolizumab in patients with advanced non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study used retrospective analysis of >1,000 plasma samples, demonstrating a strong correlation with matched tissue TMB and improved response and progression‑free survival when treated with atezolizumab.
Blood‑based TMB offers a less invasive, scalable method to select NSCLC patients for checkpoint inhibitor therapy, potentially improving clinical outcomes for over 30% of patients lacking adequate tissue biopsies.
