Melanoma exosomal hsa-miR-221-5p suppresses keratinocyte LL‑37 to promote tumor progression

The study identifies a novel mechanism by which melanoma cells use exosomal microRNA to downregulate the antimicrobial peptide LL‑37 in surrounding keratinocytes, thereby weakening an innate skin defense that normally restrains tumor growth. Targeting this exosomal pathway or boosting LL‑37 could provide new therapeutic or biomarker strategies for melanoma treatment.
