Specialist Referral for Cardiovascular Risk in Patients With Prostate Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial
“Should all patients with prostate cancer be referred to a cardiovascular specialist?”
Patients with prostate cancer have a high burden of cardiovascular risk factors, often suboptimally controlled, and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. This randomized clinical trial evaluated whether routine referral of patients with prostate cancer to a cardiovascular specialist to implement a systematic risk factor strategy would reduce adverse cardiovascular outcomes and improve risk factor control compared with usual care.
The study addresses an important clinical question regarding the potential benefit of systematic cardiovascular risk factor management in men with prostate cancer, a population at elevated cardiovascular risk.
