Colorectal Cancer: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Prevention

Rákkutatás · Colorectal cancer

Prevention is the most effective method for controlling colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Disparities in epidemiology across populations are likely due to differences in exposure to lifestyle and environmental factors. Prevention is the most effective method for controlling CRC, including primary prevention via avoiding modifiable risk factors such as alcohol consumption, smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet, and increasing protective factors like physical activity and aspirin use, as well as secondary prevention through screening to detect and remove precancerous lesions.

CRC remains a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Understanding its epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention strategies is essential for informing public health policies, guiding clinical decision‑making, and ultimately reducing incidence and mortality rates.
