Osteosarcoma – Overview of Information and Clinical Research
For young adults, the standard chemotherapy drug combination used for osteosarcoma includes high‑dose methotrexate, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (MAP).
Osteosarcoma is a primary bone cancer that primarily affects adolescents and young adults. It commonly arises in the long bones near joints and is treated with surgery plus systemic chemotherapy, usually a high‑dose methotrexate, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (MAP) regimen. The 5‑year survival for localized disease is 60‑70%, whereas metastatic disease has a much poorer prognosis.
This standard MAP regimen has been the cornerstone of osteosarcoma therapy for over four decades and remains the benchmark against which new systemic therapies are evaluated.
